Formed in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2007, Dash Berlin centered around the talents of dance scene veterans Kalberg, Molijn, and Sutorius. Their 2007 single "Till the Sky Falls Down" was not only their debut but also their first big hit, finding its way onto Armin van Buuren's influential playlist. After joining van Buuren's Armada roster, the trio issued their full-length debut, The New Daylight, in 2009. One of its singles, "Waiting" featuring Emma Hewitt, earned the band an International Dance Music Award (IDMA) for Best High Energy Track. They received another IDMA nomination a year later, this time for Best European DJ.
Over the next few years, Dash Berlin ranked highly on DJ Mag's Top 100 poll, coming in at number seven in 2012, just behind mentor van Buuren. Their second album, 2012's #Musicislife, featured a number of popular singles including "When You Were Around" featuring Kate Nash. In 2014, the trio kicked off Part 1 of a two-part project titled We Are, which included the singles "Here Tonight" and "Underneath the Sky." Part 2 featured the hits "Listen to Your Heart," "Heaven," and "Without the Sun," and saw release in 2017.
By this point, the group had begun to splinter, and in June 2018 Sutorius announced his departure from Dash Berlin. In a confusing twist wrought from bitter legal battles, it was ultimately Kalberg and Molijn who stepped away from the project while Sutorius used the Dash Berlin name for a series of 2019 and 2020 solo releases. The feud continued until March 2021, when it was agreed that Kalberg and Molijn would keep the name going forward and Sutorius would work under his given name. The newly minted duo spent the remainder of the year issuing singles like "Oceans" and "Home at Last." ~ Timothy Monger & Chris True, Rovi
