SoundHound’s voice AI is now powering enhanced in-car experiences with Edge+Cloud technology in multiple models already in market
SANTA CLARA, Calif.—October 27, 2022—SoundHound AI, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOUN) (“SoundHound”), a global leader in voice artificial intelligence, today announced the delivery of its advanced voice AI technology to popular Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobiles (DPCA) vehicles in China. The technology includes SoundHound’s innovative Edge+Cloud connectivity, custom branded wake words, and multiple languages – including the new option of Mandarin.
SoundHound has been working together with DPCA’s partner Stellantis to develop a Mandarin voice solution since 2019, and now DPCA owners will be able to complete a variety of tasks by simply talking. Drivers and passengers can use SoundHound’s sophisticated voice feature for frequently used functions like music and navigation, and also to connect with the world outside of the car, including facts and information about their destination.
This relationship with DPCA represents an extension of SoundHound’s long-standing work with Stellantis, including the recently announced delivery of SoundHound’s advanced voice technology to some of Stellantis’ most popular vehicles in Europe.
It also demonstrates the growing adoption of SoundHound’s Speech-to-Meaning® and Deep Meaning Understanding® technologies as a unified hybrid (cloud and embedded) in-car voice experience.. SoundHound’s Edge+Cloud and Active Arbitration technologies work together to ensure that regardless of the query, the voice assistant will always return the most accurate answer quickly—delivering seamless access to information like navigation and full in-car control, with or without connection to the cloud.
The addition of multi-language voice AI capabilities and custom branded wake words ensure DPCA models can meet the growing needs of customers in global auto markets and retain brand name recognition through a customized experience.
“We’re delighted to be bringing SoundHound’s voice technology to our DPCA vehicles. It’s important for our drivers and passengers to be able to control car features and search the internet by speaking in Mandarin,” said HengHui Li, Director of Department of Product Planning and Deputy Director of Department of Technology and Quality. “The powerful hybrid cloud and embedded connectivity of SoundHound’s Voice AI platform allows us to deliver “always-on” voice experiences, even when there might not be an internet connection. It’s perfect for customers on the go.”
Through SoundHound’s advanced conversational technology, drivers can get in the car and say things like:
Even when the internet is not available, drivers can control their car simply saying:
“We’re delighted to be able to offer our first Mandarin solution, granting many DPCA customers access to the very best in voice technology in their first language,” said Keyvan Mohajer, Co-Founder and CEO of Soundhound. “SoundHound now offers conversational technology in 25 languages, allowing many millions of people to communicate naturally with their car, and connect with the world beyond it safely and seamlessly.”
Previously, car manufacturers that wanted users to be able to control both in-car functions and obtain information from the cloud had to settle for solutions that took several seconds to search one platform and then the other looking for a response. SoundHound’s Edge+Cloud and Active Arbitration technology is able to deliver a query to the cloud and the embedded system simultaneously, which is key to a faster, more accurate conversational experience.
